The Finding Inner Peace Yoga School has been certifying yoga teachers since 1996. Finding Inner Peace is a business that focuses on certificate programs in yoga, sound healing and Reiki energy healing. In 2002, the Yoga School was approved by the National Yoga Alliance as a Registered Yoga School.
Maureen Spencer, M.Ed., R.N., is the Founder of Finding Inner Peace, which opened in 1995. She received her Bachelors Degree in Nursing from Northeastern University, Boston, Ma. and a Masters of Education in Health Promotion from Bridgewater State College, Bridgewater, Ma.
Yoga has been a long-time passion of Maureen's. As a teenager she read an article about yoga and the mind control that it would enhance. She started practicing yoga everyday and at the young age of 17 began teaching yoga while in nursing school to her classmates. Maureen received her first yoga teacher certification from the Ashram in Belmont, Ma in 1978 with Joanne Sherwood. Maureen continued her yoga studies as a yoga therapist with Integrative Yoga Therapy and completed their advanced teacher training with Joe LePage. Other programs she has attended included teacher intensives with the American Yoga College, International Yoga Studies and Yoga Journal Conference Intensives. She received further training in Yogakids Phase I Facilitator, Color Me Yoga Children's Teacher Certification, Meridian Hatha Yoga Certification and Prenatal Yoga Teacher Certification.
In October, 1997, a group of yoga teachers representing various schools and styles of yoga met to draft standards for teacher certification for the National Yoga Alliance. Maureen was requested to participate in this project and immediately incorporated the drafted yoga standards into her yoga teacher certification course in 1998. In 2000, Maureen was approved as an E-RYT500 advanced registered yoga teacher with the Yoga Alliance and the school was registered in 2002. She has trained over 1000 yoga teachers, many who have gone on to open well known and successful yoga centers and practices.
In 2003, Maureen closed her Finding Inner Peace yoga studio to return to her nursing career but wanted to share her teachings with other yoga teachers and studios on what she learned running a studio and training teachers for 15 years.
